ZURU won three honours at the 2026 Independent Toy Awards. Fuggler Baddies took Gold in the Soft Toy category, while My Mini Mom & Baby Surprise won Silver in Dolls and Pets Alive Mommy Capybara & Baby Surprise won Silver in Electronic. The awards are voted for by independent toy retailers across the UK, which is what makes the recognition matter.
What are the Independent Toy Awards?
The Independent Toy Awards (ITA), run by Toy Shop UK and now in their 19th year, are voted for by the nation's independent toy retailers rather than by expert panels or product testers. These are the specialists at the sharpest end of the trade, the people who talk to parents every day and stake their shelf space on the toys they back. That retailer vote is what gives an ITA win its credibility: it reflects genuine confidence from the people who sell toys for a living. The 2026 winners were announced in August 2026.
What did ZURU win at the Independent Toy Awards 2026?
ZURU won three Independent Toy Awards in 2026 across three different categories:
Gold - Soft Toy: Fuggler Baddies
Silver - Dolls: My Mini Mom & Baby Surprise
Silver - Electronic: Pets Alive Mommy Capybara & Baby Surprise
Winning across soft toys, dolls and electronic play in a single year shows the breadth of the ZURU Toys range, from collectible plush with attitude to nurturing surprise play and interactive pets.
Which ZURU toy won Gold at the 2026 Independent Toy Awards?
Fuggler Baddies won Gold in the Soft Toy category at the 2026 Independent Toy Awards. Baddies is the boldest line in ZURU's Fuggler range of so-ugly-they're-cute monster plush, built for collectors who like their plush with a fashion edge and signature Fuggler mischief, including the brand's famous human-like teeth. The win capped a strong run for the brand, which was also named in Amazon's Top 100 Toys of 2026.
Will Collinson, General Manager UK & Europe at ZURU, said of the win: "We're absolutely thrilled to see Fuggler Baddies take Gold. Fuggler has never behaved like a traditional plush brand - it's weird, irreverent, proudly ugly and completely comfortable being different. Baddies takes that attitude and dials it up even further, with a real fashion edge and some of the most expressive characters we've created yet. The momentum behind Fuggler right now is phenomenal, with kids and kidults alike."
Which ZURU toys won Silver at the 2026 Independent Toy Awards?
Two ZURU toys took Silver in 2026. My Mini Mom & Baby Surprise won Silver in the Dolls category: a pregnant doll with a surprise newborn reveal, a swaddle and accessories, designed for nurturing, mom-and-baby role-play. Pets Alive Mommy Capybara & Baby Surprise won Silver in the Electronic category: a battery-powered walking capybara that waddles with realistic motion and reveals two or three surprise baby capybaras inside, pairing the runaway popularity of the capybara with interactive play.
Why do the Independent Toy Awards matter?
The Independent Toy Awards matter because they are decided by independent toy retailers rather than a judging panel. These specialists talk to parents, watch what children reach for, and back the toys with their own shelf space. A win signals that toy shops themselves expect the product to sell, which helps parents and gift-buyers shop with confidence heading into Christmas.
